  • Take the first chapter of a thesis. for example. This is usually labelled as the ‘Introduction’. but what that means can be surprisingly varied in terms of length and what is included. In the past. I’ve worked with a list of components that could (should? ) be included in this opening section: background information. rationale for research. scope of project. research questions and aims . . .
  • TUM provides a template for master’s theses that is recommended to use. You can download this template in Word or LaTeX format (login with your TUM account required to access). There is no mandatory length of a master’s thesis. Most well-written theses have between 50 and 80 pages.
  • To be clear. there are 192 hours in eight days. Allowing for a 12-hour work day. then you need to write 15. 000 words in 96 hours or about 156 words an hour. Set a target of 400 words an hour. Make sure you have time to edit your work.
  • The introduction of your thesis paper makes up roughly 10% of your total word count. Therefore. a PhD thesis paper introduction would be 8000–10000 words. However. a Master’s thesis would be 1500–2000 words long. Although the thesis introduction length can be increased if the writer includes images. diagrams. and descriptions. (back to top)
  • A master’s thesis is generally 40–80 pages. not including the bibliography. However. the length will vary according to the topic and the method of analysis. so the appropriate length will be determined by you and your committee. Students who write a master’s thesis generally do so over two semesters.
  • In the introduction of your thesis. you’ll be trying to do three main things. which are called Moves: Move 1 establish your territory (say what the topic is about) Move 2 establish a niche (show why there needs to be further research on your topic) Move 3 introduce the current research (make hypotheses; state the research questions) Each Move has a number of stages. Depending on what you . . .
  • Well. above all. the introduction as a whole should outline the significance and relevance of the thesis. The main criteria for a PhD is its role as an original contribution to knowledge. so the introduction is the space in which you very clearly outline that contribution. By talking about what the research is about. why it is important. how it was conducted and what you found. you will. all . . .
  • Listed below is a sample thesis introduction that was made by me and my partner during our college days. You may notice in the introduction. proponents of previous researchers who have conducted a similar study before since the opinion of experts gives the study basis and grounds as to why this topic requires more future studies. You may also see thesis proposal. Introduction. Even as . . .
  • In a Masters thesis. is “Introduction” the name of Chapter 1? Does it refer to the entire Chapter 1 or is it a subheading inside Chapter 1 which has its own body like the Rationale and Statement of the Problem? What exactly does the Introduction and Background of the Study include? How do we write the Introduction and Background of the study?
